When you start talking to garment manufacturers, three terms come up constantly: private label, OEM (called maklon in Indonesia, also FOB or full package), and CMT. All three put your brand on the product — but the capital required, speed to market, and degree of control differ dramatically.
This guide compares them directly so you can pick the model that matches your business stage.
Quick Definitions
Private Label
You select proven, ready-stock products from the factory’s catalog, and they ship with your brand’s label, hangtag, and packaging. No design development — the styles already exist and already sell.
OEM / Maklon (Full Package / FOB)
You bring your own design. The factory handles everything: fabric sourcing, sampling, cutting, sewing, QC, labeling, and packaging. You receive finished, sell-ready goods built to your specification.
CMT (Cut, Make, Trim)
You supply both fabric and design — the factory provides only the cutting, sewing, and finishing labor. Full control over materials, but you carry the entire fabric-sourcing burden.
Comparison Table
| Aspect | Private Label | OEM / Full Package | CMT |
|---|---|---|---|
| Design | Factory’s proven styles | Yours | Yours |
| Fabric | From factory | From factory | From you |
| MOQ at Tiga Raga | 5 kodi (100 pcs) | 2 fabric rolls per color (±50 pcs/roll pashmina, ±30 pcs/roll gamis) | 2 kodi (40 pcs) |
| Speed to market | Fastest — just labeling & packing | ±6 weeks (sampling → approval → production) | Depends on your fabric readiness |
| Starting capital | Lowest — from ±Rp 3.3M (5 kodi viscose pashmina) | Medium — depends on fabric & design | Lowest service fee, but plus your own fabric capital |
| Risk of unsold product | Low — styles already proven | Higher — new designs are untested | Higher — new designs are untested |
| Control & differentiation | Limited to branding | Full | Full (including materials) |
| Operational burden | Simplest | Simple — one door for everything | Heaviest — you manage fabric |
(A kodi is the standard Indonesian wholesale unit: 20 pieces.)
Which One Fits You?
Choose Private Label if…
- You’re just starting and want to test the market with controlled capital
- You want to focus on marketing, not product development
- You need goods that are sell-ready fast — no production cycle to wait through
This is the path we recommend for most SMEs and first-time brand owners. Our ready-stock products pass multi-layer QC and arrive individually retail-packaged — sellable the moment they reach you. See the private label service and the product catalog with starting prices per kodi.
Choose OEM / Full Package if…
- You have a clear product vision and your own designs
- You want products that can’t be price-compared directly against competitors
- You can work with a ±6-week production cycle and an MOQ of 2 fabric rolls per color
The OEM advantage at Tiga Raga: access to an exclusive fabric supplier network spanning domestic and international mills — fabrics with a signature feel that other factories and counterfeiters struggle to duplicate. Your product gets a real, defensible point of difference.
Choose CMT if…
- You already have fabric access (a family network or established supplier)
- You’re running repeat production with mature specifications
- You want the lowest possible production service cost
CMT suits experienced players. For beginners, managing fabric sourcing is a common failure point: miscalculated quantities, inconsistent fabric quality, or retail fabric prices that erase the savings.
The Progression Most of Our Clients Use
Many successful brands start with private label, then graduate to OEM:
- Market testing — private label at 5 kodi, validate demand with small capital
- Growth — add private label SKUs, build a customer base
- Differentiation — move to OEM for signature products with exclusive designs
This way, the custom-design investment decision is made after you have sales data — not on a guess.
Where to Start
Whichever model you choose, the first step is the same: order a sample (commitment fee from Rp 300,000, fully credited to your first PO). Hold the product, inspect the stitching, feel the fabric — then decide.
